Before we talk about birth, we need to talk about why you feel the way you do about it. This session covers the history of how birth became medicalised, why the modern maternity system works the way it does, and why the fear and confusion you're carrying is a rational response, not a personal failing.
Session Two
The Building Blocks & How to Play with Them
Your body has been running the most complex hormonal orchestration in human biology for nine months. This session covers the physiology of labour in clinical detail, the hormones, the mechanics, the stages, and what your body actually needs to do its job. Understanding what's happening and why is the single most effective antidote to fear that exists.
Session Three
Decoding, the Undervalued Tool
Medical language is complicated because complexity creates dependency. This session breaks down clinical terminology, teaches you how to interpret statistics (and how they're commonly misrepresented), and walks through the most frequently offered interventions and what the evidence actually says. You'll leave with a decision-making framework you can use in real time.
Session Four
Knowing Your Rights, When and How to Use Them
A competent adult has the absolute legal right to refuse any medical treatment, for any reason, or no reason at all. Including in labour. This session covers the legal framework around consent in maternity care, the difference between a hospital guideline and the law, and exactly how to exercise your autonomy, including when it gets hard.
Session Five
How to Build Your Own Birth Boardroom
The people in that room will shape your birth more than almost anything else. This session covers the different care models available to you, what to look for in a care provider, the evidence behind continuous birth support, and how to prepare your birth partner so they actually know their job when it counts. Because love is not a birth strategy.
Session Six
Birth Like a Boss
This is where it all comes together. We build your birth preferences document live, not a wishlist, a set of informed decisions made while you're calm. We cover contingency thinking versus fear thinking, how to hold preferences lightly while staying firm on your values, and what it actually means to walk into that room ready.

I'm Bailey, an independent midwife with over ten years of experience and a deep, persistent frustration with the way women are prepared for birth.
Not because birth is inherently frightening. But because the information women need to feel genuinely powerful in that space is routinely withheld, simplified, or buried under so much reassurance that it stops being useful.
I specialise in physiological birth, home birth, and continuity of care, and I built Birth Prep with Bailey because I believe the most important thing I can give any woman is not my presence in the room. It's the knowledge she needs to own the room, whoever is in it.
