What is a Precipitous Birth?

A precipitous or “quick birth” is defined as labour lasting less than 3 hours from start to finish. My own home birth lasted just 45 minutes – and it taught me everything about why trust matters in birth.

7 years ago, on valentines eve, I had the fasted birth I’d ever experienced as a midwife.

45 minutes, start to finish!

& The crazy thing, it was my own & I wasn’t prepared for how much it would change me, help me have a new perspective of the birth room & how much I would grow from this moment as a mother and a midwife.

My littlest home birth baby taught me that when birth happens, it happens & nothing I or any midwife, doctor or doula does will change that.

The Role of Trust in Fast Labour

It also taught me about the incredible ability of the mind, & how when I had to just suck it up and get on with what was unfolding I could & did and as a result, it has shown me that incredible strength doesnt have to be physical.

Women’s bodies react to the presence, or perceived presence of pressure, fear or observation.

I had none of this in my birth space.

Trust, lived experience both as a mother and as a midwife allowed me to know all was well & all could just be accepted as is.

I was loved, supported & knew that the people would mattered the most were surrounding me.

Private Midwifery and Rapid Births

& since the brith of my wild child I have had the privilege of developing incredible relationships that bring this same energy to women across the Yorkshire region and beyond.

They have hired me to provide private midwifery care that builds trust and knowledge, truth & safety. & funnily enough many of these women go on to birth so fast I am often only just there in time. Or is some circumstances miss it completely.

& that’s because, when women trust themselves & have others around them that trust deeply too.

Birth Happens!
